Vacabou - Vacabou
Written
with the intention to create unidentifiable music, this is not kind you
can avoid easily. It will creep under your skin and embed itself firmly
within your imagination. The self-titled debut album from “Vacabou” is
exceptional but can only be appreciated fully if embraced with an open
mind.
At face value, “Vacabou” is tastefully
experimental, at times runs with the components of electro-pop and is
almost easy listening, but there is an unsettling nature to each piece
that will submerge you beneath the exterior and will transport you to
an almost somnambulant state. An intimacy only achieved with such
unconventional song writing is woven through the foundations of this
album and is demonstrated by both the metaphoric appearance of the
lyrics and subliminal melancholic tones – inviting the listener to
become reacquainted with their personal memories.
Pascale Saravelli’s somewhat emotionless vocals
provide a haunting and mysterious juxtaposition to the intricate,
stirring presentation of the instrumental – creating something both
strange and beautiful. From the reassuring melodies of “Life As
Interface” to the atmospheric eccentricity of “Rannveig”, “Vacabou” can
only be described as an ambient stimulant that uses its melodic
persuasion to take you on a scenic journey to somewhere unfamiliar yet
somewhere you will not hasten to forget.
